The Full Gallery. At Full Scale.

The Medallion Calathea is already one of the most extraordinary foliage plants in the world — and at 6 inches, it's at its most commanding. Broad, oval leaves painted with feathered silver-green medallion patterns radiating from the midrib, a rich burgundy-purple underside that flashes with every movement, and the living daily ritual of a prayer plant that rises and folds with the rhythm of the day. At this size, with multiple large leaves in full display, the effect is genuinely breathtaking.

Where the 4-inch Medallion invites you to lean in and appreciate the detail, the 6-inch fills a space. It anchors a shelf, commands a side table, or becomes the quiet centerpiece of a plant collection that people stop to look at. The pattern is the same — intricate, painterly, almost floral in its symmetry — but at 6 inches, it's impossible to miss.

Why the 6-Inch?

  • Full, immediate presence — multiple large, well-developed leaves on display from day one; the medallion pattern at this scale is genuinely spectacular and impossible to overlook
  • More dramatic leaf movement — with more and larger leaves, the evening fold of a 6-inch Medallion Calathea is a more visible and mesmerizing daily event
  • Anchors a space — substantial enough to serve as the focal point of a shelf, side table, or plant grouping without needing to grow into the role
  • Every leaf a unique painting — the medallion pattern varies subtly on every leaf; at 6 inches with multiple leaves, you have an entire gallery on display
  • Pet friendly — non-toxic to cats and dogs; a safe and spectacular choice for pet-friendly homes
  • Air purifying — helps filter indoor air pollutants for a cleaner, healthier living environment

Care Guide

  • Light: Bright to medium indirect light is ideal and will keep the silver-green medallion pattern most vivid and the growth most vigorous. At 6 inches, consistent bright indirect light is especially important for maintaining the full, lush canopy. Tolerates lower light, though the pattern may become less pronounced over time. Avoid direct sun, which fades and scorches the delicate variegated leaves
  • Water: Keep soil consistently moist but never waterlogged — water when the top inch feels dry. Use filtered, distilled, or rainwater whenever possible; like all Calatheas, the Medallion is sensitive to the fluoride and minerals in tap water, which cause brown leaf tips. Allow excess water to drain fully after each watering
  • Humidity: Loves high humidity (60%+) — mist regularly, use a pebble tray, or place near a humidifier for the most lush, vibrant growth. At 6 inches with larger leaves, the impact of adequate humidity is even more visible; well-hydrated leaves stay flat, glossy, and fully open. In dry conditions, leaf edges will brown and curl
  • Temperature: Prefers 65–85°F (18–29°C); keep away from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and sudden temperature changes, which stress the plant and cause leaf curl
  • Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer; avoid over-fertilizing, which causes leaf burn and inhibits healthy growth
  • Soil: A well-draining, moisture-retentive mix is ideal; our Premium Potting Soil is an excellent match when it's time to repot
  • Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years when roots begin to crowd the pot, moving up one size at a time

The Medallion at the Heart of Your Calathea Collection

With the Calathea Dottie, Freddie, Beauty Star, and 4-inch Medallion already available, the 6-inch Medallion is the statement piece that anchors the entire collection. It's the same extraordinary pattern — but at a scale that commands the room. Place it at the center of a Calathea display and let the Dottie's bold contrast, the Freddie's subtle stripes, and the Beauty Star's silver feathering radiate outward from it. The result is one of the most visually cohesive and breathtaking plant displays you can create.

Tip: Brown leaf tips are almost always caused by tap water minerals or low humidity — switch to filtered water and increase misting frequency for crisp, clean edges. At 6 inches, keep those magnificent medallion-patterned leaves gleaming with our Leaf Shine Spray; clean leaves at this scale make a striking, immediate visual difference and help the plant absorb the bright indirect light it needs to keep that pattern vivid.
